ADEX Dental Hygiene Exam Prep for U.S.-Trained Candidates
Hands-on preparation for the clinical portion of the ADEX Dental Hygiene exam, the Simulated Patient Treatment Clinical Examination (SPTCE). You’ll train on exam-style manikins and typodonts in Williamsburg, VA, with individualized feedback and a timed mock exam, so you walk in knowing exactly what to expect. ADEX exam prep is Day 2 of our two-day Clinical Cohort, or it can be built into a Private 1:1 program scheduled around your exam.
Small group or one-on-one · 2 days hands-on + 11 hours online · 27 CE hours · From $2,695
What the ADEX SPTCE Covers: Calculus Detection, Probing, and Tissue Management
The SPTCE is the hands-on, manikin-based part of the ADEX Dental Hygiene exam. Examiners grade your clinical skills and judgment in three areas:
Calculus detection and removal on your assigned teeth
Accurate periodontal pocket depth measurement
Tissue management, working without trauma to the gingiva
Returning hygienists may remember this exam as the MTCE. ADEX now administers it as the SPTCE.
Who This Course Is For
First-Time ADEX Candidates: Recent Dental Hygiene Graduates
Your program taught you the skills. This course shows you how the exam grades you. You’ll practice to the published ADEX criteria under exam timing, so the format and pace feel familiar before test day.
Retaking the SPTCE After an Unsuccessful Attempt
If you didn’t pass, you’ll get focused feedback on the exact skills that cost you points, and a plan to correct them before your next attempt. ADEX requires a waiting period after a failed attempt, so choose a session that falls between your results and your retake date.
Returning to Practice: Lapsed or Inactive RDH Licenses
If your state requires a clinical exam to reinstate your license, this course rebuilds your hands-on skills and prepares you for the exam format. If you only need a skills refresh, see our dental hygiene refresher courses.
U.S.-Trained Dentists Pursuing RDH Licensure
Your dental training gives you a strong foundation, but the hygiene exam has its own criteria. This course focuses on hygiene instrumentation and what ADEX examiners look for. Confirm your eligibility with your state board before you register for the exam.

It depends on your state. Every state board sets its own rules for returning to practice, and they change. Next Level Dental Hygiene courses are clinical skills training and CE. They are not delivered through a CODA-accredited program, so in states that require one for reinstatement, Virginia among them, they will not satisfy that requirement on their own. Before you enroll, call your state dental board and ask exactly what they accept. If you’re not sure what to ask, take the intake and we’ll help you figure out your next step.

All in-person training takes place in Williamsburg, Virginia. You’ll get the full address and arrival details when you enroll. The online courses are self-paced, so you can complete them from anywhere before your clinical days.
-
Yes. Next Level Dental Hygiene is AGD PACE-approved, and most state boards accept AGD PACE credit. Whether your hours count is up to your state board, so it’s worth confirming with yours. Your certificate lists your live clinical hours and online hours separately, which makes reporting easier if your board tracks them differently. The Medical Emergencies course comes with its own separate certificate.

-
Passing depends on your performance on exam day, so no course can guarantee a result. What you’ll get is mock examinations and direct clinical feedback that build your confidence and teach you how to self-correct during the exam.
-
Unfortunately, no. This program builds foundational clinical skills and is not an approved remediation course through the Florida Board of Dentistry. Please contact the Florida Board of Dentistry to find out which programs they accept. If you’re seeking licensure in a different state, contact us first and we’ll look at your options together.
-
Tuition is paid in full at enrollment and is non-refundable. If you need to change your dates, you can transfer once to a future course within 12 months, as long as you give at least 14 days’ notice before your first clinical day. If you don’t attend and haven’t given notice, your tuition is forfeited. If Next Level Dental Hygiene cancels or reschedules a course, you can choose a full refund or a transfer to any future date.
